The Buzz Around Facebook

(by Craig Cooke, CEO)

Another star has risen on the Internet landscape. It’s hot, it’s social and it’s growing like mad. Just last month, Microsoft announced a $240 million investment for a 1.6% stake in the company. Its name is Facebook and it’s located at facebook.com of course.

In the last year, this social network site has experienced incredible growth. Originally geared for college students, the site has evolved to become more of a “lifestyle” application for everyone. Its simplicity, functions and responsiveness have helped users adopt the site quickly over other social media sites.

One of the biggest attributes in Facebook is shared applications. People can write applications that work within Facebook and share these applications with friends. Thousands of applications have been developed. Examples include: Where I’ve Been, StyleFiles, SplashCast, Channels.com and more. The applications range from pure fun to pure business. As a Facebook user, you can choose to add applications to your account, customizing the user experience within Facebook, which goes beyond just personalizing a user profile.

Of course everyone is going to be jumping on the Facebook bandwagon, but it’s worth checking it out. If you don’t see an application for marketing your business, you might find it to be a great application for social networking. The overall adoption of social networking sites among the public is increasing to the point where it may go beyond just being a fad. So, check it out, I’m on Facebook. Maybe I can be in your Facebook too.
