Printronix is a leader in industrial printing solutions for the enterprise. In 2007 Printronix’ marketing team consulted with Rhythm Interactive to explore ways to improve the website’s ability to generate leads, better support marketing needs for territories outside of the United States, increase the site’s usability and more accurately express the essence of their brand. After some initial fact gathering, Rhythm Interactive recommended a complete redesign of the site in order to meet all of Printronix’ business goals.

Rhythm Interactive performed thorough research and analysis to understand Printronix’ business environment, brand, products and audience segments. Careful user research and modeling uncovered important user goals that directed the new design for the site. Rhythm Interactive created a comprehensive design strategy for the new site, including user scenarios that described the vision for the user experience relative to each defined user goal. Then the team built off of the strategy to execute the architecture and design for the site. Rhythm Interactive ultimately delivered a full functional spec and style guide to Printronix’ development team that they used to build the site and integrate it with Printronix’ content management system. Rhythm project managers and production artists remained involved throughout the build stage to provide quality assurance and help Printronix’ development team fine tune the site to comply with the designer’s intentions.

Since the new website’s launch in June of 2008, it has been very well received by Printronix' internal stakeholders and customers. Foreign languages are better supported throughout the site, and territory-specific content modules have strengthened Printronix’ ability to market itself effectively across the globe. Users now have a much easier time finding key information and resources such as product overviews, drivers and manuals. The Printronix brand is much better reflected in the new design and an acquired line of products, RJS scanners and verifiers, have been integrated into the product architecture. Overall this project was a textbook case for effective user-centered design.
